For recording guitar we used utilised the space we had and the mics we had at hand. For the Title fight song after finding out that when recording Floral Green they layered their guitar tracks we did the same and recorded the guitar. We did three separate recordings with an AKG 414 and a Shure SM57 both on the amp and one recording we set up the guitar ampand mic in the hallways and used an AKG C3000 as a room mic at the other end of the hall.
When recording drums we experimented with different mic set ups and placements to try and get the tone we desired. All of these pictures were taken in our recording session that we had of the 29th of March. In our demos we only used one overhead and a snare top mic.
Kit used:
AKG D112 – Kick drum (We also tried the Audix D6)
Shure SM57 – Snare top
Audix i5 – Snare Bottom
Audix D4 – Rack tom (We also tried the Audix D2)
Audix D6 – Low Tom ( We also tried the Audix D4)
Audix ADX 51 – Overheads
When recording our songs we contacted multiple other musicians to see if they could help with our project. Overall we wored with
We did also contact Paul Hawksworth and Rhiannon Lister but both were unable to contribute due to scheduling clashes.
Pity sex is an alternative rock band from Michigan that were active from 2008 to 2016 similar to Superheaven. Because they have disbanded we will also be looking into works from other bands that are very similar like Tigers Jaw who Will Yip has also Produced and Adventures which has members of Code Orange. Our main reference example for comparative research is their song Wind up. For this song we got Sam Pickering and Sarah Hughes to do vocals and Sam to do drums also. Sam is in a local band called GUTS that produce similar music and Sarah is well known among the local open mic scene.
We will be focusing on the lyrical style in this song and paying attention to effects and styles used on different instruments throughout.
